Oil-on-panel – ‘Gonadotrophin releasing hormone’

Oil-on-panel – ‘Insulin binding’

I started combining my passion for painting and biology in1995 drawing inspiration initially from my own scientific research.  My first exhibition of science-based work was entitled ‘Inner landscape’ shown in the Department of Biochemistry in Oxford together with an event encouraging debate and discussion about crossing disciplines.  Scientist Sir Rex Richards spoke about art while notable writer, Professor John Carey reflected on science.

Since 2002, I have been working full-time as a professional science-based artist.  As well as painting, I also have professional qualifications in photography with an Associateship from the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS).  I have been commissioned by universities, institutions, individuals and companies including GlaxoSmithKline to create oil paintings, sculptures and installations. My work has a scientific theme at heart but I use paint to convey a feeling of wonder, movement and life.  For me the starting point is gaining an understanding of a scientific subject in depth and then letting my artistic side take over.

My work has been described by the government’s former Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir David King as ‘an exciting, refreshing, optimistic view of medical sciences in oils. Brilliant’.

Please get in touch if you would like to see my latest work or if you would like to make an enquiry about commissioning a painting.  I accept commissions from companies, universities or individuals.  Quotes will depend on the scale and depth of work with prices starting at £1,000.
